This potting material is recommended for fine rooted orchid plants and seedlings. Typical uses are Paphiopedilums, Phragmipediums and Pleurothallids which do not want to dry out completely between waterings When properly used, this medium can be maintained for up to 12 to 18 months before requiring replacement, depending on your watering patterns.

A 1 litre bag will report 2 4 inch pots ( or 1.5 5 inch pots)
A 3 litre bag will re-pot 4 five inch pots.
A cubic foot box (28 litres) will re-pot 36 five inch pots.

Fine Fir bark Review

Quality and size is fine. Small qty packaging and high cost for what you receive is a deal breaker. Will need to source another supplier now that the larger qty and more reasonable pricing is a thing of the past.

Fine Fir Bark has been an issue for us. It is currently sourced from the US and we are currently working to avoid using American suppliers when we can. We reccomend switching to New Zealand made 'Orchiata' Pinus radiatus bark which is available in bags up to 35 litres.

Excellent quality Fir bark

I think this is the best fine fir bark available in Canada. The pieces are uniform, consistent and clean. I rely on fir to grow pluerothallids, restrepia, etc. I like fir bark over pine, particularly that fir is more locally sourced and is less acidic - I am measuring around 4.8 to 5 pH with this bark as opposed to 4 or lower for most pine bark. Good quality stuff like all of Ravenvision’s growing media.

They offer a great supply and great service. I have been ordering almost everything that i need for my orchids there for years !.
