Superior to Chilean sphagnum, New Zealand dried sphagnum is grown and sustainably harvested in isolated swamps on the west coast of New Zealand. Harvested only every 5 years and flown out by helicopter to further protect the environment, this harvest is overseen by a NZ Government agency to ensure a sustainable renewable resource.
In pots, this incredible media will last two years or longer (Chilean is good for 1 year) depending on your watering. It can be used alone or mixed with other media to increase moisture retention. It can hold 20 times its weight in water, and has known antiseptic properties to protect your plants.
Soak the moss for 5 minutes, then squeeze out the excess water. Gently tease apart the fibers before filling the pot. DO NOT OVER PACK, there should still be air spaces in the media or the roots will suffocate, killing the plant.

A perfect substrate with high quality
I like the quality of this moss. I can easily break off a piece to rehydrate and it fluffs up nicely. Some strands are quite long so I save these for my Neofinitia orchids.

I have been getting my orchid supplies from Ravinvision Orchids for the past 5 years. Their products are good quality from plastic pots, to fine and medium fur bark to their orchid mixes. The spagnum moss is quality from New Zeaand. I do love the orchiata and have tried the new orchiata mix. The butterfly clips are so cute. The fir bark smells so fresh and clean, like being out in the woods. They ship quickly, I ordered on a Sunday and recieved my products on Friday. Thank you for the care in packing also.
